Back From Camping Trip

Mountain View We had a great time at the Sherando Forest park down in Virginia. Here's the view that greeted us whenever we got out of our "home away from home" tent. We left late Friday since I had the CFUNited conference to attend, and Hubby has to work Friday morning. And of curse, we got caught up in rush hour traffic on 495 and 66 and didn't arrive till it was after 9pm. We managed to get the tent up quickly, with help from JK (of course, Hubby had tested the assembly of the tent the day before to see how it all worked). No sooner had we managed to get settled in for the night, the heaven opened up and poured buckets and buckets of H2O.

Camping Tent View of Lake and Mountain

See the blue tent? That our "home away from home". Very comfy, with the addition of the air mattress (hey . . . stop snickering! It's my first time out in the wilderness and the goal was to have a pleasant camping experience, such that I would be more inclined to go camping in the future . . . ) and plenty of room to store our possessions.

And that picture of the little lake - it's used primarily for fishing and boating - no swimming allowed. That's for the bigger lake at the other end. We didn't really do any strenuous hiking, but we did go for a long walk up and down camping park, and walked around the right side of the lake, where one of our camping fellows pointed out the blueberries to us. It being blueberry season, there were quite a few ripe berries which I ate right off the bushes. Yummy.

Makeshift Shrine Here's our makeshift shrine, where Fr. Valery served Divine Liturgy Saturday morning. It was a really cool experience, to go to church in God's natural temple. We're hoping to reserve this particular spot for next year - it will be a lot easier to set up meals and services just a few steps away from our tents.

Yes, I did bring my knitting, but as it turns out, there wasn't much knitting to be done as we were busy fellowshipping with our church friends. And it looks like I may be asked to demonstrate spinning and knitting at the church bazaar and helping make clothes for the folk dancing group that is being formed at our church. All in all, a very good experience.

Now back to wasting time on Ravelry . . .
