With Warm Spring Breeze

Comes pollen that is starting to make my life miserable. I think this is going to be a bumper year since my allergies have started to activate. Sneezy like crazy, runny nose, and eyes starting to itch. Ugh. Good thing I don't wear contacts (I really do not like touching my eyeballs).

Anyway . . . have to update y'all as to what i've been up to the past couple weeks or so. Yes, dear folks, I've found a job! Well, to be sure, it's one of those work-from-home, part-time (as in, charging by the hour) deals. But it's work nonetheless. There are, umm, unique challenges that come with this particular job, but it could pay out well if this continues in the long-term. And meanwhile, I'm thinking that it might not be a bad idea to start up my own business sometime in the future. At least, I can ensure that I don't get fired or laid off, especially when it's me doing the firing and laying off.

Sewing Cabinet, Open With some of the money that I got from doing work for someone who needed some temp work done, this is what I got. I'd been keeping an eye on Craigslist for a nice sewing cabinet, but all I could found were ones very similar to what I was already using downstairs and made in the fifties or sixties, or a rickety table with almost no storage drawers selling for $60 bucks. Thanks, but no thanks. Several months ago while catching up on my blogfeed, I saw a post from another blogger who got this from WalMart. I liked it, so I bookmarked for future reference. I didn't get it from WalMart; I got it from FurnitureBuzz. Looks like they're having quite a discount on Sauder Furniture items, so grab this while you still can! I had to wait 3 weeks or so for delivery, but they ship by UPS Freight and length is determined by how far you're from Sauder, so it worked out great.

View of Sewing Cabinet and Dummy Here's another view, with the cabinet all shut up and everything in its place. On top of the cabinet, you'll see the electric spinning wheel that Hubby put together for me some years ago. I haven't had a chance to use it much, because I didn't have a place where it was comfortable enough to use; this will obviously change now. Next step - get Hubby to refine this so that I can moderate the speed. (And I need to find bobbins at MDSW) The light post will not be there for long once we get hanging lights that Hubby is going to attach to the ceiling. And then there's the duct-tape dummy. See that caftan? It's a silk caftan that I got couple years ago at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival where Oman was the feature country. For a while it's been located downstairs in the living room, but I was afraid about the colors fading due to the sunlight shining directly on it for part of the day. Fortunately, that doesn't seem to have happened, since the dummy was only in that corner for a few months.

Car Organizer, Simplicity 3731 Simplicity has released Summer designs, and I see one that I really like - Car Organizers. I'm going to stop by the fabric store later today and see if it's available yet.
