lolajl: July 2007 Archives

Readers, take a close look at this picture. Don't think there's a problem? Then compare with the finished version. Yes, I'm going to be having to do a lot of tinking back. Two weeks down the drain!!! Sigh. Fortunately, I have the vest to get back to - at least I'll feel very productive in getting it finished off this week.

I finally found that ball of yarn to finish off the FI vest! And would you believe me - it was right there in plain sight all along. All I had to do was go into my sewing room, lok down on the floor and look at the wall under the window in that gap. Back to HP7 . . .
For a while, Bloglines was only dumping a few updates with artificially inflated numbers since Blogpost insisted on serving up old post as new. This morning, all of sudden, I'm seeing about 157 updates to read through. Good thing we don't have anything planned for today. And I still need to get on with reading HP7. And finish Chart 1 for the Icarus Shawl and get started on Chart 2. I suppose I'll have to lay off on Ravelry for today. Hmmph.

Except that, of course, this project isn't going to crash like Icarus did. I took this picture about a week ago and have made a lot of progress since then. So much that I had to go buy one of those Addi Lace Turbo needles. I like it, although the tip is rather pointy (which is the point, isn't it?). I don't remember where I got this yarn - probably from The Woolery - I think it may be Fingerlakes Soft Wool. I'm fixing to get the Chart 1 portion finished today and get started on Chart 2. I really need this since it's too darn cold in air conditioned room and I still haven't been able to pick up my cardigan from the church where I left it.

Houston, we have a problem. With every row I am closer to binding off at the shoulder. Look at all those colors that I have assembled for the vest, some not yet used. Do you see what's left? And what's missing? Meanwhile, that missing ball of yarn is somewhere in my house, quietly laughing at me and daring me to go discover its hidey hole. Feh.

We had a great time at the Sherando Forest park down in Virginia. Here's the view that greeted us whenever we got out of our "home away from home" tent. We left late Friday since I had the CFUNited conference to attend, and Hubby has to work Friday morning. And of curse, we got caught up in rush hour traffic on 495 and 66 and didn't arrive till it was after 9pm. We managed to get the tent up quickly, with help from JK (of course, Hubby had tested the assembly of the tent the day before to see how it all worked). No sooner had we managed to get settled in for the night, the heaven opened up and poured buckets and buckets of H2O.
See the blue tent? That our "home away from home". Very comfy, with the addition of the air mattress (hey . . . stop snickering! It's my first time out in the wilderness and the goal was to have a pleasant camping experience, such that I would be more inclined to go camping in the future . . . ) and plenty of room to store our possessions.
And that picture of the little lake - it's used primarily for fishing and boating - no swimming allowed. That's for the bigger lake at the other end. We didn't really do any strenuous hiking, but we did go for a long walk up and down camping park, and walked around the right side of the lake, where one of our camping fellows pointed out the blueberries to us. It being blueberry season, there were quite a few ripe berries which I ate right off the bushes. Yummy.
Here's our makeshift shrine, where Fr. Valery served Divine Liturgy Saturday morning. It was a really cool experience, to go to church in God's natural temple. We're hoping to reserve this particular spot for next year - it will be a lot easier to set up meals and services just a few steps away from our tents.
Yes, I did bring my knitting, but as it turns out, there wasn't much knitting to be done as we were busy fellowshipping with our church friends. And it looks like I may be asked to demonstrate spinning and knitting at the church bazaar and helping make clothes for the folk dancing group that is being formed at our church. All in all, a very good experience.
Now back to wasting time on Ravelry . . .
