Sniffle, sniffle. My faithful PowerBook has developed cracks in its facade, and the right hinge that attaches the monitor to the main body is very much bent out of shape. And the battery refuses to work at all. Right now, I can still do stuff on this PB, but it's obvious that pretty soon this will be too fragile to take out anymore. So, I'm off to Apple Store to pick up a brand new PB. Oh, well . . . I was hoping to hold out till next year for that G5 laptop, but I figure, you know what they say about 1st generation models.

Garden piccies! Finally had a chance to go out back and take pictures of the garden at its best (in other words, having been refreshed by overnight rain) . . . I'll force myself to stay awake on the metro so I can write the blog and process the pictures for upload to the blog.

I just wasn't able to find Valuable Knitting Information, 40th edition - either it got left behind somewhere or it went on a walkabout. So, I broke down and shelled out $$ to get the latest version. Now, I got to figure out how to do a batch record insert of main groups, such as manufacturer names, yarn brands, etc. without wearing out my fingers. Well, I do have a yarn database in a couple of Palm files, but it's an old version and the company didn't provide a way to open these files using the newest version. Can any Palm wizards help me out with this? The original software was from ThinkingBytes, I think, which got bought up by DataViz, I believe.

Recently, I've been doing a lot of spinning, trying to produce enough white yarn for my 2-color cardigan. I think I may have to spin a bit more, but that's okay. I got the Woolee Winder for Jensen, with an extra bobbin. Bruce put a cherry stain on these and it looks lovely. Can't wait to give it a workout, especially when I do the plying.

And gardening has been taking up a lot of my time as well. Clue for y'all - never plant cucumber plants next to tomato plants. The cucumbers will put out a tentacle to grab every bit of the neighbor's branches. Hopefully this weekend should be clear enough to take pictures.

This morning I had change lines on my way to work, and was waiting for the next train to arrive. As I walked down the platform, I saw a young gentleman who was wearing a really nice suit. With a tie, carrying a briefcase. And a light blue tartan kilt. And a lovely pair of white socks held up by strips of leather, I think, and a nice pair of leather shoes with a wrap around tie. I know there's a name for these shoes but I can't remember. Oh, how I wished I had my digital camera with me. Especially for a good close-up of those socks to determine whether these were hand-knit, hand-spun, or mass-produced.

Well, now that I've Postgresql reinstalled, and I think I understand why it keeps getting hoseed, it's time to rebuild my Knitting Library. Only problem is - I can't seem to locate my yarn brand spec book. I know I've put it down somewhere - just can't find it. It sure would make it easier to reenter that list of manufacturers, brands, etc. etc.

Works in Progress
