I've been lying low the past few weeks, because well, I'm in a rut. I haven't really done much knitting the past month, especially since I discovered that mistake I made with my FI vest. It's really amazing how a stupid mistake can spoil one's knitting mojo. And I've been spinning, mostly. But who wants to see bobbins of plain ol' white LolaYarn?

I do have other excuse - we've been doing some rearranging of our living room. We got fed up with Comcast, and Verizon FiOS is n ow available in our area, so we decided to make the switch. That meant moving the dresser over to another spot, cutting in holes to run the cable out from the garage up to the living room, assembling the IKEA tv cabinet, moving the big tv out from my office (fortunately, Hubby didn't throw out his back).

Today is day 3 and we lovelovelove our new FiOS service. They arrived earlier than the scheduled appointment time, didn't spend too long mucking around with the cables and such, and made sure the tv and net service were working. And when we ran into a couple problems such as channels not displaying properly on our bedroom tv, they were very courteous and walked hubby through resetting the set box. Comcast is going to have to do a lot of work to bring back customers who've left them.

So, we're looking forward to being more social - having people coming over to watch movies and such with us. And yes, I'm starting to fix up my corner of the sofa - moved the knitting sand next to it (after going through the waste yarn and such in it, off course). In the inner pocket, I have an old tape measure, a blunt needle, scissor, a few dpns. All that's left is for my knitting mojo to return.

Oh, and of course, I've got a spinning wheel sitting there so that my hands will not be idle while I watch tv. What more could one ask for?

Sedgway User No . . . I'm not talking about breaking up with Hubby! There are many kinds of breakups, and some have to do with work. Unfortunately, this is one of those deals. Remember those unique challenges that I alluded to last month? Well, unfortunately, these "challenges" became too much, so this one is going buh-bye soon. Pity. I did learn a lot about how to run business and how to deal with difficult clients, and what to look for next time. Onward and upward!

As for MDSW, I had a lot of fun. I'm not going to do a report since others have done a much better job than I, a currently infrequent blogger. I did take a picture a woman tooling around on a Sedgway. I thought this was unusual enough that I just had to take a picture. I remember seeing a picture of this same person, with another Sedgway user, on another blog. I'd like to know how this went, being as the fairgrounds are a bit hilly and it was packed (although to be true, there weren't as many people on Sunday that I saw this woman).

I didn't do much buying - just some dyed, prepared fiber, Judith's new book, and a few other items. Oh, and a large tool followed me home and thus caused a lot of rearranging in our living room. We're seriously thinking about switching over to Verizon FiOS since many people have been so positive about their experiences (although everyone wants it *now* and there are only so many people who can go around installing it, which can take like 6 hours, at least). There are things we need to do first, like get an extra circuit breaker set up (easy peasy - hubby's an electrician), run the cable through to the intended location in the living room (no big deal - just punch a hole in the garage, run it inside and up the staircase wall). I think the tricky part will be getting them to come out when we need them to come out.

Sewing? What sewing? See first paragraph above - so much of my energy has been snapped up by this that it's been really hard to to get back to my sewing. Hard to do something productive when there's so much drama going on. Ditto for knitting mojo (does it help when you've discovered a rather obvious boo-boo three rows below and you're trying to decide whether to rip back or just duplicate-stitch over the incorrect pattern sections?) . . .

I did get get my back garden straightened up and ready for planting. Going to have to replant some of the seeds since the heavy downpour from Saturday thunderstorm disturbed the ground that I had planted only hours before and cut in a mini-river channel, though.

What else could it be but Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival? Yes, it's that time of the year again and I see that just about everyone up and down the East Coast is preparing to come to the fairgrounds, and even a few from west of here as well as abroad. I truly regret that I was unable to take the workshop with Judith MacKenzie McCuin (and in fact, have never really been able to take intensive spinning workshops with other spinning teachers as well). I'll just have to hope that I can find a copy of her new book (and maybe she could be persuaded to do a DVD as well?) . . .

I'm keeping a mental list of what to look for, so as to restrain myself. Especially since I have yet to make headway in my current stash. I'm thinking about taking one or two fleeces out to get these processed by one of the vendors. I'm going to look for dyed wool in 8 oz. or more batches that are on the jewel color side. Books, of course, and tools that make life easier.

Oh, and work - it's going better now, now that the kinks have been worked out. Now I need to see if I can pick up more long-term freelance work . . .
